"Soda Machine" Foundation for a Better Life :60/:30 OPEN Two teenage girls pull in to a parking place at a convenience store. It's late after hours. CUT TO Girls get out and walk around to the side of the store. CUT TO One of the girls puts money in soda vending machine. CUT TO A can comes out. CUT TO They start to walk away with the soda and they hear another one come out. They turn to look then a third can comes out - and so does some money. CUT TO The girls look at each other - amused - then cautiously approach the machine. SFX: machine malfunctioning. CUT TO More cans and money are coming out. The money is starting to spill a little onto the ground. Girls laugh and hesitantly start to collect the cans. They don't know quite what to do. They look around to see if anyone is watching. They are glad for the entertainment. A boring night has suddenly gotten more exciting. CUT TO Rough looking man starts to fill the tank using his pay-at-the-pump card. He starts filling the tank and is immediately bored. His wife waits in the car. CUT TO View of store - man in foreground filling tank. He is looking toward the store and a soda can rolls out from behind the store. CUT TO The man looks intrigued, puts nozzle back on and gets in the car. He continues to look at the store. CUT TO The store. One of the girls darts out from behind the store and grabs the rolling can then runs back out of site. CUT TO The man. He definitely needs to check this out. He gets in his car. CUT TO POV from inside the man's car. Car comes around the side of the store where the machine is. His headlights reveal a pyramid of cans forming against the wall and the girls are still collecting new cans as they emerge. The pile of coins is growing. CUT TO Man and his wife in disbelief. They park the car then get out. CUT TO The man grabs a plastic bag out of the back of his truck and rushes over to the machine. He puts the bag under the coin chute. His wife gets on her cell phone. The two girls are still extracting cans. They are grateful for the help - and attention CUT TO Time has passed. Man and wife and girls sitting on curb like they have been waiting. They are having a nice chat and laughing. There is large pyramid of cans behind them. The machine is quiet. A soda distributor truck pulls up flooding them in its headlights. The man stands up to greet the soda man. CUT TO Soda man emerging from truck in disbelief - then amusement. CUT TO Rough man hands the bag of coins to the soda man. Soda man receives them gratefully. TITLE "HONESTY. PASS IT ON." CUT TO Wider shot. The machine sparks and startles everybody. The lights in the machine go out. They laugh. TITLE "The Foundation for a Better Life"
"Telescope" Foundation for a Better Life - Latino :60/:30 OPEN Latino boy (Juan) at home looking at ad for telescope. Then he looks at the price and gets discouraged. CUT TO Juan counting his money from a large Kerr jar. He stops, looks up and we... CUT TO The ad is now cut out and hung up on his wall. CUT TO Juan, he sighs and begins counting money again. He is a long way from what he needs for a telescope. He looks longingly at the ad....we push in on the large round lens in the picture and MATCH CUT TO Juan's bike wheel turning. CUT TO Juan delivering papers. He notices something on the street and stops. CUT TO Fat wallet in gutter. Juan picks up wallet. CUT TO Juan's hands opening wallet. It has some money in it. CUT TO Surprised Juan. He looks around. He is alone. CUT TO Juan's hands flipping through bills, then noticing photo ID of someone. There is also an old picture of Jesus off to the side (real subtle if at all). He rubs the picture ID with his thumb and pauses in poignant pondering. CUT TO Juan puts the wallet in his coat pocket then gets on his bike and takes off. CUT TO Back view of Juan peddling away from camera. He is dwarfed by scene. He is alone in his decision. CUT TO Juan gets to driveway and puts his bike and papers down. CUT TO Juan in front of door. He knocks on the door and a rough man opens it. Juan offers him the wallet. CUT TO Man eagerly takes wallet, looks inside it, then half smiles and nods in an ungrateful way and closes the door. CUT TO Juan's face. He might be a bit expectant; thinks for a moment, sighs, then heads for his bike. CUT TO Juan getting on bike. CUT TO the door on the house as it opens again. Man with his wife and 2 children appear in the doorway and the gruff face smiles as he waves and says, "Gracias!" CUT TO Juan waves, and rides off. CUT TO close of Juan's face...he's beaming from ear to ear...doing the right thing is it's own reward. TITLE "HONESTY. PASS IT ON." "Blowfish" Foundation for a Better Life :60/:30 OPEN Busy office building lobby. People are bunching up at a revolving door, going through one person at a time. CUT TO an average looking business woman who looks like she is late for work impatiently waits for her turn for the door. CUT TO an old businessman -who works with and probably knows the lady- enters the revolving door at the same time as the woman. As he enters, he recognizes the lady and notices her gloom. He abruptly stops the revolving with his foot, trapping them both in opposite enclosures. CUT TO wide shot showing a sudden people jam. CUT TO trapped woman, annoyed, looks over to see what has happened. CUT TO annoyed people who are craning their necks trying to see what the delay is about CUT TO Close-up of man through the glass. He makes eye contact her then buffs the glass with his sport coat sleeve, then does a giant, cross-eyed blowfish on the window. The window fogs slightly leaving a large bizarre print of his mouth. CUT TO the embarrassed woman self consciously looks around and then looks back at the man CUT TO the man grins and hopefully mouths the word "smile", then grins. CUT TO the woman cracks a smile and shakes her head like "okay he got me". She pushes the door and enters the lobby CUT TO Woman walking toward the camera. She looks over shoulder and then looks ahead again shaking her head and has to smile. CUT TO man walks out into plaza grinning to himself, then waves to someone else CUT TO Custodian, standing by his custodial utility cart, who has seen the whole thing. He looks annoyed. CUT TO the print on the door as it is still revolving CUT TO Custodian sighs and shakes his head, then grabs his glass spray and paper towels and heads toward the door to clean it. "Big News - Traffic Hero" Homefront PSA :60/:30 OPEN A fictitious commercial about yellow teeth begins, then is interrupted by breaking news CUT TO Male experienced news reporter at anchor desk with a lower third that says Live Breaking News with fictitious station logo. The Anchor appears shaken and is fumbling with his earpiece. ANCHOR "We interrupt this broadcast with some breaking news. An extraordinary event has just occurred. We will take you now to Mary Martinez who is just arriving on the scene. Mary, what can you tell us so far?" CUT TO Reporter standing by the side of a road at dusk front-lit by camera-mounted light. She is holding a microphone. REPORTER "Well, Mark, what we witnessed a few moments ago is truly extraordinary. The fact that it was actually caught on tape is the amazing thing being that this is such a rare event. CAMERA Pulls back to reveal a couple with their young son. Self conscious wife attempts some last-minute hair fixes. Son is stealing the show, waving at the camera. Cameraman attempts to crop him out. REPORTER "I have with me the individual who some are already calling a hero. This is Frank Thomas and his wife Sarah from Fisher Falls. Frank, do you realize the significance of what you did earlier tonight?" FRANK "Well, OK. Um... " PASSING CAR rudely toots horn dopplering into the distance, interrupting Frank, Which frazzles him a little. FRANK "- Hi Mom! - I let a few people in front of me back there on the freeway - but I don't consider myself a hero exactly. I think I was just in the right place at the right time. Anybody in my situation would have done the same I'm sure. ANCHOR "Lets roll the footage. Frank can you tell us a little about what we are seeing?" CUT TO Shaky, grainy footage of cars signaling and a car braking to let them in. Important area of image is highlighted graphically FRANK V.O. "Okay, yes, that's my car right there and ...well I was coming up on the merge lane & I saw there were a lot of people trying to get in - and uh...
